Sepsis
Sepsis and Medical Malpractice
Sepsis is a life threatening condition that begins with an infection but is characterized by an immune response that is too severe, so the response itself becomes part of what the patient struggles with.
The signs and symptoms of sepsis can be subtle and missed by an incompetent medical provider. They can include a high temperature or an abnormally low body temperature, an abnormally rapid heart rate or breathing rate, difficulty making urine, or mental confusion or impairment. Taken together, those signs can telegraph impending sepsis.
If a sepsis diagnosis came later than it should have, our failure to diagnose page explains how that kind of claim is reviewed.
Cauda equina syndrome
Cauda Equina Syndrome is a Surgical Emergency
The spinal cord at the level of L2 splits into a series of rootlets and strands that resemble a horse’s tail. This area of the spine is particularly vulnerable to compression, and if the compression is not promptly recognized and surgically relieved, the harm to the victim can be devastating and permanent.
That harm can include paralysis of the lower extremities, loss of bowel and bladder control, and, in men, an inability to initiate or maintain an erection. The video covers the cardinal signs and symptoms of cauda equina syndrome, its common causes, and the key questions a competent medical provider must ask to minimize the chance of missing this critical diagnosis.
When the emergency was recognized but the response came too late, our failure to treat page may also be helpful.
